st. paul's carnival 2014.

Are you guys sick of hearing about how awesome and lovely Bristol is? I think that I'm making up for my trip to the States by doing ALL THE FUN THINGS, so I'm afraid that you're in for some more sunshine and celebrating in today's post!
On Saturday we headed to Portland Square to check out St. Paul's Carnival. Ryan has been to St. Paul's in years prior while I hadn't, but we've both been to Notting Hill Carnival, so we were mostly prepared for what we were in for.
It was packed. I think estimates put it at some 100,000 visitors during the day and it felt every bit that full! We got there a bit later in the afternoon, so the parade was over and while everyone looked like they were having a great time, it was a little overwhelming to go from a quiet flat to dancehall (which I LOVE!) blaring from every speaker on every corner. We stayed long enough for me to arm myself with a bubble gun (which Ryan now hates) and a flower crown, take some photos, and wander around a bit.
I love, love, loved the atmosphere and music but wasn't in the mood to drink or be jostled around, so we called it a day and headed for lunch after a bit. We had no intentions to stay late but did talk about making a day out of it next year, but that's something that I'm reconsidering after hearing about everything that happened during the evening. I think we'll try to catch the parade at least, but knives and stabbings? No thanks.
Anyway, we had fun while we were there, and that's what counts, right?
