Happy, happy Friday!
I'm going to get straight to the links today as Ryan has the day off and I'm trying to hustle my way through work and the "must-dos" on my to-do list so that I can
+ First! As you may have seen on Facebook, the brand new – and improved! – Ready to Blog is LIVE! Ah! I was a little more than beyond excited to get this baby off the ground, I'm so happy with it! You can read more about what's new here.
+ On Tuesday, my gorgeous friend and client Lulu and I hosted a bit of a blogger get together at The Phene in London. We had the most amazing time and of course I was an awful blogger and only took three photos total. Luckily, a few of the other girls posted about it here, here, and here! Thank you to Michelle, Che, Xandra, Lulu, Becca, Tania, Freya, Amy, Helen, Lou, and Siobhan for coming!!
+ Since Feedburner is probably going to go the same way as Google Reader eventually, you might want to start looking into alternatives for your feeds. Here's one.
+ The B Bar girls discuss the future of blogging.
+ The men of Harvard's Class of 2017 expect to earn more money than the women. :(
+ In other Harvard news, I just discovered their SoundCloud channel and it's pretty cool! Especially Soledad O'Brien's Class of 2013 Class Day speech!
+ I...was kind of baffled by the Sheryl Underwood situation this week. Here's somewhat of a summary if you need to catch up. I think what she said was awful and there's really no excuse for it even if there are dozens of explanations that can be teased out of the whole thing – internalized racism, foot-in-mouth disease, being ridiculous – but the reaction was also...crazy. I don't care for Underwood, but I'm increasingly saddened by the fact that people are really not allowed to walk back, qualify, or apologize for their statements anymore. (Not that Underwood did any of those things particularly well, but, damn, there was no coming back for her once people started in.)
+ The editorials section of The Washington Post is the worst.
+ Here's why we should give Yahoo a break and let them do their thing.
+ On avoiding "must-reads".
+ The beautiful Brittany Wood is doing family photo sessions in the SoCal area!
+ I thought this was an interesting dimension of the conflict in Syria: At-risk sites caught in the Syrian civil war.
+ OMG. I swear this is what I think of when I come across some Instagram feeds. ATTACK OF THE SELFIES.
+ Maurice Sendak's posters on books and the joy of reading.
+ Talking to strangers about Margaret Atwood.
+ I've never had any desire to go to Burning Man, but these photos make it look pretty cool!
+ This is what happens when you let a bunch of book nerds run your Twitter feeds. (It's awesome.)
+ I didn't put my favorite Instagram of the week (by ) up at the top of the post because of the Ready to Blog announcement, but here it is below:
Okay, that's it! Happy Friday!
