A few days after Christmas, my sister
(Parents, this is what happens when your adult children come home for the holidays! They put you to work!)
What felt like seconds after my mom agreed, my sister ran out the door to see her friends, so I stayed back to help out. We opened a bottle of Moscato (this was my grand contribution) and got to work!
All I can really tell you about the process is this:
+ On Christmas Day, combine lots of fruit, rum, and wine in containers that can be sealed tightly.
+ Wait a year.
+ Open a bottle of something. You'll need it.
+ Combine a ridiculous amount of eggs, butter, and special ingredients with your fruit cocktail (which is potent by now) and mix until your arms nearly fall off.
+ Bake at 325F for an hour.
+ Have a slice, but don't drive after because these bad boys are lethal.
My mom used to make huge batches of these every year and I really don't know how she did it! We started out with intentions of making four cakes, but we ended up with 10! TEN!
They're heavy and delicious and one of these days I'll have my mom around the blog to give you guys proper instructions!
Until then, I hope the New Year's recovery is going swimmingly for all of you!
Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday and I so want to try this cake! And sisters can be this way. My eldest sister will force my middle sister to make a cake(s) day of our holiday dinners. I just walk away thinking that my two sisters are the most insane women on the planet. Then I walk into where we have the dinners and I'm then sure it must be in our genes because those older women are insane as well. :-) But i'm glad you were able to bond and enjoy your mothers company and often wine is my only contribution to anything!

Also thank you so much for completing my survey! I've learned so much!
Love this! I never knew you could put those tins in the oven. What a great idea!

I'd like to see myself after a slice of that. I'm sure I'd be a ton of fun. ;)
